Listed on Annex II of the Bern Convention and on Appendix I of the CMS. The Pygmy Cormorant is breeding, migrating and wintering in Burgas area. From about 500 pairs in the country over 150 breed in the project area. The last one is of global importance as wintering and staging site during migration. In the last years over 15,000 individuals are roosting in the area during winter time, accounting for up to 17% of the flyway population in Europe. Listed in the national RDB as Endangered. A national Action plan was adopted by the MoEW in 2014.
