Listed on Annex II of the Bern Convention and Annex II of the CMS, under which it is covered by the AEWA. The project area is a typical ‘bottle-neck’ site for soaring birds as the White Stork. It concentrates here in very high numbers, reaching up to 240,000 individuals in a single migration period. This is 51% of the European population. The White Stork is breeding species in the project area with about 49 occupied nests. One of the most serious threats to the species is collision with and electrocution from overhead powerlines, especially whilst on migration through the project area, where dense network of power lines exists.
