Elektrorazpredelenie Yug has started laying a new cable line in Sarafovo neighbourhood

In February 2023, Elektrozdredelenie Yug (part of EVN) started the first stage of activities for improving the power supply in Sarafovo neighbourhood. It includes laying a new underground cable line in the neighbourhood. The new cable is 500 meters long and connects two transformer stations in Sarafovo. The construction and installation works include excavation, laying of the cable line and restoration of the pavement.

The new cable line is the first part of the overall package of measures to improve electricity supply in Sarafovo, as part of the long-term project of EP Yug "LIFE Safe Grid for Burgas". In 2023, the next phases of activities for the installation of a new underground electricity distribution grid on the territory of Burgas Municipality are to be launched.

The project "LIFE Safe Grid for Burgas” is implemented by Elektrorazpredelenie Yug in partnership with the Bulgarian Society for Protection of Birds (BSPB) and is financed by LIFE programme of the European Union. It will be implemented by 2026 in four NATURA 2000 areas around Burgas - Atanasovsko Lake, Burgas Lake (Vaya), Mandra-Poda Complex and Pomorie Lake, which are located on one of the two main migratory routes of birds in Europe - “Via Pontica”.

The aim of the project is to protect birds by reducing mortality due to contact with electricity distribution grid overhead lines. Along with this, the security of electricity supply for the customers in the nearby settlements will be improved by constructing new underground cable lines, additional facilities and installing safety materials on the poles.
