From 8 to 10 May, Plovdiv and the village of Belozem hosted the 23rd Annual Meeting of the European Network of Stork Villages – an international forum dedicated to the conservation of the white stork and its habitats. The event brought together representatives of local authorities, nature conservation organisations, institutions and partners from various European countries, united by the cause of preserving one of the most recognisable symbols of nature and the harmony between humans and the environment.
The meeting was attended by representatives from 10 stork villages in the UK, Spain, Croatia, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria. As part of the programme, discussions, presentations and initiatives were held, focusing on sustainable development, biodiversity conservation and best practices in the protection of the white stork.
A special guest at the international meeting was Elektrorazpredelenie Yug EAD, Life safe grid for Burgas
The participants at the meeting highly commended ER YUG’s contribution to the implementation of measures to protect globally threatened bird species and the organisation’s leading role in carrying out LIFE programme projects in Bulgaria.
